Support for Individuals and Couples Living in The Netherlands
Life brings many challenges, especially while living abroad. In 2000, I experienced this firsthand when I moved from Boston to Amstelveen.
Are you feeling sad, isolated, and lonely?
Is your partner angry, unsupportive, and withdrawn?
Do you need more empathy, support, and understanding?
My name is Debby Poort and I help people just like you.
Since 2007 I have worked with countless clients who have felt the way you are feeling. You are not alone and I can help lead the way to a more fulfilling life.
there is a path forward
If you feel like you’ve lost your way, you don’t have to go it alone.
All people are equal, yet you are one-of-a-kind. Therefore, not one particular form of therapy, method, or model is suitable for you.
Integrative psychotherapy involves combining various methods based on your individual needs. Using these different models, I will create a custom made treatment program that is just for you.
The aim of integrative psychotherapy is to activate the healthy components within your personality in order for you to discover what you need to make self-governed decisions, solve your own issues and reach your full potential. My role as the therapist is to guide and support you through this process.
During the therapy process we will focus on your current situation, how you are coping at present and what you want to accomplish. You are not required to discuss the past, unless you feel that this would be helpful towards understanding your situation better in order to reach your goals.
After establishing a safe and secure therapeutic relationship, we will explore your inner resources and how they relate to your thoughts, feelings and actions. From there you will be able make new choices and achieve your therapy goals.
You are unique, therefore you will progress at your own pace. The average length of treatment varies from 5-30 sessions. Appointments are usually held weekly or once every two weeks.

sometimes it takes three
When you can’t get through to your partner, sometimes it takes a third, neutral party to help break the cycle.
During the therapy process we will focus on how you and your partner interact, both verbally and non-verbally. During each consultation we will explore the patterns within the relationship and how they unfold within the session, in the here-and-now.
My role as the therapist is to act as an unbiased third party who will support both you and your partner equally. I will also help create a safe environment where both of you can explore and express your needs to each other in order to strengthen and deepen your connection.
The average length of treatment is 8-20 sessions and varies depending on the issue(s) at hand. Sessions are usually held once a week. Double sessions and full day intensives are also available.
- Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT)
- Gottman Method Couples Therapy
- Polyvagal Theory
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Couples therapy might be helpful for you and your partner when you:
- Feel like you are no longer in sync with one another
- Argue or disagree more frequently than usual, yet nothing gets resolved
- Experience lack of trust within the relationship
- Believe your partner does not listen to or value you
- Notice a decrease or absence of intimacy
- Want to strengthen the bond you have or once had together
Yes! Once you have been through the intake process you have the option to choose two hour sessions.
In most cases, longer sessions can be beneficial at the start of couples therapy.
Once progress has been made after 3-5 longer sessions, couples typically resume hourly sessions.
Providing a safe environment where you will experience empathy, support, and understanding is my number one priority.
